The Francis hydraulic reaction turbine is used for the production of electricity taking advantage of watercourses with differences in height from 10 m up to 700 m and flow rates from 2 ÷ 3 m³/s up to 900 m³/s. This type of hydraulic turbine was developed by the British engineer James B. Francis in 1848.
